Vicks Plant
The Vicks plant, also known as Plectranthus tomentosa, is a member of the mint family with fuzzy, velvety leaves that smell like menthol or Vicks VapoRub.
Native to South Africa, Madagascar, and Tropical Africa.
Popular for respiratory health due to its calming essential oils. Can be crushed and inhaled to clear airways, or used to make herbal steam. It’s not for consumption.
Indoor: Place near a window that provides bright, indirect light for at least 5-6 hours daily. Outdoor: Prefers full sun to partial shade but needs protection from direct sun for more than 6 hours to prevent leaf burn.
Soil
Use a light, well draining soil mixture.
Watering
Drought tolerant, only water if soil feels dry to touch.
Overwatering can lead to root rot, so always allow the soil to dry out between waterings.
Temperature & Protection
The Vicks plant is a succulent and needs protection from frost. It prefers temperatures between 40°F and 100°F (4°C and 38°C).
